If you have connected the hearing protectors to an external device from the 3.5mm audio port, listening around the hearing protectors will continue normally. When external sounds, such as speech, are heard, the sound through the audio port is automatically muted and returned to the correct level when the speech stops. This is how you hear everything, excluding noise!
